Once more into the fray…
Into the last good fight I’ll ever know.
Live and die on this day…
Live and die on this day…

I saw The Grey tonight. Here are my thoughts:

This was, without a doubt, the most intense movie-going experience I’ve ever had. The Grey isn’t the action-packed wolf-fighting film the trailer makes it out to be; it’s much, much better. While it is filled with numerous brutally intense moments, there are many quiet, dialogue-driven scenes that find true grace among the chaos. These men (who survive a plane crash in the Alaskan wilderness, only to have to brave the elements as well as a vicious pack of wolves) are each given a heart and soul, who slowly come to grips with the concepts of life, death, and faith the more grim their situation gets. Liam Neeson gives an exceptionally commanding performance, and the rest of the cast gives great turns as well; Joe Carnahan makes the weather a central character, as you will feel the burn of the wind and the chill of the cold. Incredibly tense, beautifully shot, hauntingly sparse, surprisingly philosophical, and immensely brutal, The Grey easily earns a spot as one the greatest survival films ever made.
